Tail hopping 1986 Ferrari 308GTB of Tony Worswick./ Usually rallied in Europe on Tarmac events, it was well suited to the Race Retro stage. The unusual part was that as it took the ‘yump’ every time, the rear of the car would catapult high in to the air, leaving the car in a nose down position. Not unusual if the engine were in the front, but the Ferrari is a mid-engine configuration! via: http://www.sportscardigest.com/rally-stage-2010-race-retro-report-photo-gallery/

What's the difference between the old gullwing Mercedes Benz and the new SLS AMG doors?

Problem:
The engineers were are not allowed to make gull wing doors like they did in the 50's... it's a kinder-softer-gentler time in the world of cars, and if a driver flipped a new gullwing on the roof, they wouldn't be able to get out.

Solution:
The SLS AMG has exploding bolts at the door hinges.

Ever hear about how Von Dutch pissed off the Mercedes and sports car people? Did a flame job on a 300 SL gullwing Benz and put it in a car show?

For incredible color video from a 1956 or 57 car show where this gullwing, Barris' Kopper Kart, Norm's Kookie T, and lots of other kustoms were filmed: http://www.jalopyjournal.com/?p=1836 this gullwing is at the one minute mark, and 3 minutes 30 seconds for both exterior and interior coverage.

For a write up about it: http://books.google.com/books?id=10di738DvjoC&pg=PA23&lpg=PA23&dq=gullwing+von+dutch&source=bl&ots=LkYIpr5Lye&sig=mNkL9bZeJo8hhkVsDdMVuJmkJWw&hl=en&ei=ENB6S73JJIq-sgOVuM2yCw&sa=X&oi=book_result&ct=result&resnum=2&ved=0CA4Q6AEwAQ#v=onepage&q=&f=false
It was Earl Bruce's Gullwing, and according to a thread on the HAMB http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/archive/index.php/t-243779.html it might have been the first flame job Von Dutch did
